Dr. Cirocco is Professor of Clinical Surgery and Program Director of the Colorectal Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University (OSU).
He obtained his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine (Detroit, MI), completed General Surgery Residency at St. John Hospital (Detroit, MI) and Colorectal Surgery Residency at St. Vincent Health Center (Erie, PA).
Dr. Cirocco began his career in New York City at the State University of New York – Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn (SUNY-Downstate Medical Center) followed by considerable time in private practice in Kansas City, before returning to academic surgery and joining the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery at OSU. He helped initiate and became Program Director of the ACGME-accredited Colorectal Surgery Residency at OSU. Dr. Cirocco is a Member-at-Large of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons’ (ASCRS) Executive Council and also sits on the editorial board of the ASCRS’ official journal, Diseases of the Colon & Rectum (DCR). He was the first recipient of the ASCRS’ Victor W. Fazio, MB, MS Award for Editorial Excellence and was named DCR “Star Reviewer” for 2017. Dr. Cirocco is a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery (ABCRS), Associate Member of the ABCRS’ Written Examination Committee and founding member of the ASCRS’ Inflammatory Bowel Disease Committee. He is also involved in regional surgical societies and is current President of the Midwest Surgical Association and Secretary/Treasurer of the Ohio Valley Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons.
