Suggested cases:
Case 1: 20-year old male with chronic bloody diarrhea was diagnosed with mod-severe Ulcerative Pancolitis. Mesalamines started after the colonoscopy were followed with symptom worsening. Steroids are started at 40mg orally. Serology for EBV and Varicella is IgG negative. Patient presents for follow up.
Case 2: Young female patient is diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease after presenting with severe weight loss and malnutrition. Albumin level is 2.5gm/dL, Hemoglobin 8.5gm/dL, CRP 20mg/dL.
Case 3: Male patient with UC maintained on mesalamines for 4 years develops bloody diarrhea. Infectious studies are negative. Steroids are started without response after 1 week. Patient’s albumin is 2.1gm/dL and Hemoglobin is 9.5gm/dL. Sigmoidoscopy shows moderate colitis with no CMV. Patient is EBV and Varicella IgG positive.
